I started this substack to write about my frustrations in the startup ecosystem — co-founder searches, funding, hiring, and, most importantly, the process of building.

It came from a very real place. I was in the middle of it all, trying to make sense of how things actually work when you’re not just writing code, but also dealing with people, structure, timing, and everything in between that decides whether something moves forward or falls apart.

But at the core of everything, I am first and foremost a builder.

And at some point, I realized I wasn’t as interested in just talking about the ecosystem around startups as I was in understanding what sits underneath it — the systems, tools, and technical decisions that actually make products possible in the first place. That shift wasn’t immediate; It didn’t feel clean or intentional at first, It felt like stepping away from something that no longer quite fit, without fully knowing what I was stepping into.

So I paused.

Not because I had nothing to say, but because I needed to find a clearer lens for how I wanted to say it. Now, what I’ve come back with is that clarity.

This is The Build Layer — a space where we talk about software, systems, and products across code, tools, and startups. But more than that, it’s a place for looking underneath what gets built. How systems actually hold together, why certain products scale and others break; what developers really interact with when they’re shipping something into the world.

And slowly, piece by piece, that’s what this space will explore. The most interesting part isn’t what we build, It’s what we don’t see while building it.

It all began when I ran a small cleaning and landscaping business back in 2020. I was managing everything from scheduling to handling customer complaints — and I quickly realized how fragmented and inefficient property maintenance could be. The industry seemed stuck in the past, and that’s when the idea for Brange started to take shape. What if there was a smarter, more efficient way to connect property owners with service providers, using the latest tech to streamline everything?

Fast forward to today, Brange is my answer to that question — a proptech platform powered by AI, aiming to change the way we think about property upkeep. But getting here wasn’t a straight path, as a young woman in a male-dominated space, I’ve had to learn fast, adapt, and constantly push through barriers.
